Detection of Osteosarcoma in children up to 14 years on X-rays.
Abstract
Osteosarcoma is common to the primary bone tumor in children up to age 14 years. It varies significantly with age. It is more common in males than females. Survival rates are lower in metastatic diseases. To detect the presence of osteosarcoma in growing bones of children by using x-ray and to evaluate factors influencing osteosarcoma prognosis A total of patients from Lahore city who visited the radiology department of Children’s Hospital were examined. X-ray was used for detection of the osteosarcoma in children A total of 51 patients were taken out of which 21 were female and 30 were male. The male ratio is higher than the female. Out of 51 patients, 31(60.7%) had osteosarcoma and 20(39.3%) were normal.Hence it is concluded that osteosarcoma occurs mostly in children and is benign mostly. X-ray is the first-line modality used to detect osteosarcoma.
